Habitat
Lungwort is a perennial herb that grows to height of 1 ft (30 cm). Lungwort has broad oval basal leaves, smaller upper leaves mottled with white spots, and clusters of pink-purple flowers. Lungwort is native to Europe and the Caucasus and is commonly known as lungwort, spotted lungwort, maple lungwort, spotted comfrey, oak lungs and lungmoss.

Parts Used and Constituents
Lungwort’s leaves are used for medicinal purposes. The leaves are gathered in late spring. Allantoin and flavonoids; quercitin and kaempferol are the main active constituents present in leaves. It also contains tannins, mucilage and vitamin C.

Actions and Uses
Lungwort possesses demulcent, expectorant, astringent, anti-inflammatory, and vulnerary properties. It is helpful for conditions like upper respiratory catarrh, bronchitis and chronic cough. Being astringent it is helpful in treating diarrhoea, especially in children, haemorrhoid and stop bleeding of external wounds. It is useful in treating cold and sore throat
